A healthcare revenue cycle platform serving hospital billing teams was expanding into a new service line, deploying internal AR recovery teams on behalf of hospital clients.
With no centralized system in place to assign work, track actions or monitor team productivity, billers lacked daily structure, and supervisors had limited visibility into what was getting done.
Dura Digital partnered with the client to design and deliver a custom web-based AR workflow management tool, purpose-built for billers and supervisors, HIPAA and SOC 2-compliant, and architected to scale with the client's expanding hospital network.
THE CLIENT
The client helps hospitals recover accounts receivable through automation and shared billing practices. Their model connects healthcare teams with tools that strengthen in-house operations and direct more revenue toward patient care. This engagement supported a new service line, deploying internal AR recovery teams on behalf of hospital clients.
THE CHALLENGE
Billing teams had no centralized system to manage work. Billers would have no structured daily worklist, supervisors would have no view into team output, and no audit trail would exist for actions taken on individual claims. Without tooling, the service could not run at scale.
The risks were clear:

Any solution also had to meet HIPAA compliance requirements across data storage, access control, audit logging, transmission, a constraint that shaped every architecture decision from the start.
THE SOLUTION
Dura Digital's Digital Engineering and Human-centered Design studios designed and built a custom AR Workflow Management Tool as a HIPAA-compliant web application. The engagement was scoped as an MVP, focused on immediate operational value while establishing the architecture for future growth. Discovery included a structured session with billing staff to ground design decisions in the actual daily workflow of the people who would use the tool most.

The tool gives billers a prioritized daily worklist, surfacing the most urgent claims first based on dollar value, filing deadlines and denial type. Role-based access controls separately what billers, supervisors, and managers can view and do, with authentication through Azure Active Directory SSO. The application is built with React, TypeScript, and NestJS, and data is stored securely in Microsoft SQL Server on Azure. All file uploads are scanned before processing, and the infrastructure runs on Microsoft Azure with automated deployment pipelines. Delivery followed an agile model with incremental releases throughout. Every action is logged automatically, creating a full audit trail. Supervisors get dashboards showing team workload, individual productivity and AR aging trends, with reports exportable in CSV and Excel.
THE RESULTS
The tool is designed around three operational targets, each tied to a concrete change in how the team works.
ACCESSIBILITY
Billing staff can log in and start working from a prioritized list on day one, with no manual setup required.
ADOPTION
At least 90% of AR actions recorded in the system within the first 30 days of launch.
VISIBILITY
Supervisors can generate productivity and AR reports on demand, without manual tracking or data consolidation.
Together, these targets mark the shift from a fragmented, manually managed process to one where billing teams have structure, supervisors have data, and the organization has an auditable record of every action taken on every account.
The client also gains a platform built for HIPAA compliance, multi-hospital configurability, and a clear path toward future EHR integration.
