BACKGROUND 

Microsoft and Special Olympics have been working together with the goal of empowering Special Olympics athletes and programs through technology. This includes experiences like Gaming for Inclusion, an inclusive gaming tournament coming up in September 2022.  

In 2022, Microsoft  added another layer to their partnership with the Special Olympics by involving athletes in the production of the event. These athletes were invited to attend a two-day training event on August 15th and August 16th hosted at Microsoft Corporate campus. Dura Digital was approached by Microsoft to offer design and project management service for training material used during the event.

THE SOLUTION 

Dura Digital supported Microsoft in Culture through the development of a PowerPoint template and Keepsake document/training manuals.  

These were used by Microsoft and Special Olympics to host the 2 day training “Gaming for Inclusion Shoutcaster Workshop”.

THE RESULTS 

As a result, Microsoft was able to use the training manual to help Special Olympic Athletes develop skills as Shoutcasters used to host celebrity showcases for the Gaming for Inclusion events. Participants provided rave reviews and used the training manual to enhance their leadership skills as Special Olympics Athletes and Shoutcasters. 

Finally, using technology to support inclusion and equality, Microsoft, Special Olympics and Xbox successfully hosted the gaming events on September 10^th and September 17^th 2022.
